the Natural Wood Trend

the Natural Wood Trend

Natural wood is making a major comeback in the interior design scene — we’re seeing everything from furniture to floors to decor getting the organic treatment. And given how difficult it can be to get our daily dose of nature in the concrete jungle, we couldn’t be happier to see trends shifting in favour of this material.

That said, while wood is well known for its ability to contribute a rustic, homespun quality to a home, trying to add it to the clean and minimal Scandi-inspired aesthetic we love so much is a bit more of a challenge.

But we never walk away from a design challenge, and we’re not about to start now!

That’s why we scoured the Internet for Scandi rooms that are making the natural wood trend sing in the chicest way possible, and not only did we find some gems, but we’re now fully convinced that this trend is made for a minimalist aesthetic.

The blush curtains set a warm and inviting tone for this Scandinavian stunner, and we’re all kinds of in love.

The white-topped table and chairs keep this design’s vibe calm and clean, while the natural wood legs add the perfect amount of warmth to complement the blush pink curtains.

An easy way to prevent wood from overtaking your space is to play with different colour contrasts.

The contrasting colours of deep earthy hues and bright white in this dining area pave the way for light, natural wood to even out the design rather than take it over.

Now this is a room that knows how to make the most of the natural wood trend.

While so much wood might otherwise be too rustic for a Scandinavian sensibility, this design looks every bit clean and contemporary thanks to the modern copper light fixtures, minimal accents, and mid-century chairs.

A great way to make organic accents work with your Scandi style is to keep ‘em minimal in their design.

Rather than overwhelm the space, these light and airy chairs in natural wood blend flawlessly into the rest of the look due to their breezy makeup.

Even overtly rustic wood like these accents can transition beautifully into a Scandinavian design, it just takes the right styling.

By incorporating the cool hues of black, white and grey, and utilising bold, modern patterns, the wooden decor functions to warm up a cool colour palette without being overbearing.

Despite different colours, materials, and textures, this room looks incredibly breezy and cohesive due to everything having a light and bright tone in common.

What goes best with natural wood? Well, natural light of course! And this is great news for Scandi lovers as natural light is a staple of this aesthetic.

Add a few wooden accents to your decor, like a coffee table and chairs, and watch how beautifully outdoor light enhances your design.

Of course, there’s no rule that says you have to keep within the confines of wood’s natural state.

Consider painting your wood furniture pieces for a pop of personality without sacrificing your style.

A foolproof way to incorporate organic materials without making your look appear too heavy is to ensure all your furniture pieces are open enough to let light flow through and around them.

This beautiful shelving piece works so well because it lets plenty of light in while it provides more space for plant life to accent its wooden build.

Another trick to keep from stepping outside of your Scandi design sensibilities is to make use of an all-white colour palette.

The all-white aesthetic of this bathroom sets the stage for natural wood to function as a colourful accent versus weighty decor.

The finish of your wood can make a big difference in terms of its visual impact.

Pale wood like this works beautifully in a light grey bedroom as it perfectly matches the space’s subtle and soothing undertones.

This raw-edged table was a bold move for a Scandi-inspired design, but it was most definitely a move worth making.

When balanced against cold concrete, the natural warmth of this table makes the design look all kinds of fresh and contemporary.

The kitchen is another great place to incorporate the warmth of organic accents.

This stunning kitchen’s sparse design and blank colour palette let the wood do all the talking, creating a look that’s swoon-worthy in its sophistication.
