Keeping with the art discussion from last week, today we’re talking statement art! And when I say “statement art” I mean large prints, photographs, paintings, drawings…you name it. It just has to be BIG. This is a terrific way to add high impact, drama, and creativity to any space in one fell swoop. Plus, artwork is one of the best methods for putting your own personal stamp on your home. It can speak volumes about your interests and sense of style.
Larger art pieces can often come at a high price, especially when adding in framing costs, but, in my humble opinion, this is one of those instances where the splurge is definitely worth it. I think of good art in the same way I think of fine, high-quality rugs — they become heirloom pieces passed down through families, they can easily be switched out and stored away for later use, and if properly cared for they will last for years and years to come. However, if you are looking for more affordable options, Joanna Goddard from A Cup of Jo recently wrote a blog on this very subject and offers up a ton of great sources.
As for some styling inspiration, here are a few of my current faves….
It’s no secret that I love a good animal print. This high contrast version works so well against the clean white walls and wooden bench of this entryway.
A bold graphic print really takes this living room, with its simple neutral palette, to the next level. When opting for such a strong art piece, there’s really no need for patterned pillows or a multicolored rug. The print is clearly the star of the show.
How serene is this fluffy cloud print in a modern gray bedroom? The result is dramatic and elegant without feeling overly fancy.
There’s a lot going on in this dining room, but somehow it works because the patterns and colors aren’t competing with one another. It’s eclectic done right, with a decidedly mid century feel.
Even home offices need artwork, too. The place where we work and think creatively should be a constant source of inspiration. I say what better way than to add that inspiration to the walls?
