We kept being seduced by images of this amazing French apartment circulating on Instagram recently, as a result of some heavy-weight Interior Mags (Elle Decoration UK and Vogue Living Australia) featuring it and we just had to join the party! Just in case you haven't seen it of course!
Unlike their previous apartment (a lesson in decorating on the dark side - almost all walls painted in black) this time the complete opposite was desired. The paint colour is a pale chalky beige specially mixed by a friend's organic paint company - and provides a calm backdrop that highlights the amazing architectural features.
The apartment had been owned by the same family for decades, and so a complete over-haul was needed. The original features are given centre stage - with the materials and finishes complimenting and not competing with them. The stunning original parquet floors stripped and oiled working perfectly alongside the slick Boffi kitchen.
The couple's treasures collected from many trips abroad, such as the raw basket-ware and tribal inspired vessels add to the timeless appeal of this classically proportioned and heritage style apartment.
One of the stand-out features of this home, in our humble opinion, is the Bedroom. See how the slick and minimal lines of the lights (Monte et Basse by Daniel Gallo) and the chairs (Warren Platner) work SO well with the classic architectural details, and that's before we get enthusiastic about the linen that softens the whole effect!
Marble surfaces and a Boffi vanity appear in the bathroom but it is the small addition of the red tapware that we love - giving this space some personality and a sense of the unexpected.
Above all this apartment has a real sense of home - timeless elegance that doesn't appear contrived and invites you to relax - that vintage Eames 'Lounge' chair is just calling my name....
